BBCC Director Biographies
Yomar Cleary — President, Publicity
We were weekenders for 18 years with a cabin in Sugarloaf; in 1995 we decided to move to Big Bear permanently and have never regretted our decision. I have been involved with computers for the past 30 years; My background was in law enforcement for 17 years (ten of those years as a Deputy Sheriff).
It is my privilege to be a charter member of the Big Bear Computer Club. I have been a Director at Large, Public Relations, Advertising Director and now President of the Big Bear Computer Club. I have attended the Regional and National Computer User Group Conferences every year since. I set up the policies and procedures to get advertisers for our newsletter as a fundraiser.
Karen Tangeman — Vice President, Reviews Editor
My husband Bob and I moved to Big Bear 21 years ago to raise our family. We have three children and one grandchild. I am a retired registered nurse and am very active in Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church.
I came as a visitor to the February, 2005, meeting and by the end of the night I was hooked. I started taking Word classes from Sue Crane at the Library which started me on a wonderful learning journey that I haven't been able to stop. I have been attending the SWUG Conference in San Diego and then to the national APCUG Conference in Las Vegas. This has been a wonderful learning experience for me in the inner workings of Computer Clubs plus being able to meet our vendors.
Rosemary Lloyd — Secretary
My husband of 14 years, Jim, and I moved to Sugarloaf in October, 2004, from Mission Viejo.
I started learning about computers over 16 years ago when my environmental lab job required it. My experience includes software training— from developing written materials to designing and teaching classes on many programs. I have been tutoring on the Big Bear Community Computer Lab project.
Jim and I started SugarloafPC.com at the beginning of 2005. I do training, web design and help people with sick computers, as well as hardware installations and troubleshooting. I enjoy interacting with people, whether the topic is technical or not.
Barbara Moore — Treasurer
I became a permanent resident of the Big Bear Valley in April of 2001. I joined Big Bear Computer Club in May of 2003 and found it rewarding and challenging. When offered the opportunity to become the BBCC Treasurer, it gave me the chance to join the others that work very hard to make the BBCC what it is today.
Keep in mind that all of us involved in Club leadership do much more than their titled jobs. So, along with devoting my time to the treasury, I also volunteer many hours of my time to improving our forms, making the certificates, and making and printing the monthly handouts.
Jim Lloyd — Technical Director
Jim Lloyd is a network administrator for a local bank. His background is in both analog and digital electronics. His first major job was as a computer technician for Tektronix, back in 1981. His first personal computer was a Commodore 64.
After spending the last half of the 1980s in aerospace electronics, he began the 1990s working with both Apple Macintosh and IBM PCs. Jim spent the late 1990s and the first few years of the 21st century working in various Microsoft based environments supporting software developers, progressing from technician to systems analyst.
Tiring of the fast-paced Orange County life style in 2004, Jim and his wife, Rosemary, moved to Sugarloaf for a change of pace. There they started SugarloafPC.com. In early 2006, Jim was offered a network administrator position at a local Big Bear bank. Rosemary continues to run SugarloafPC.com in a training and general support capacity
Rick Edwards — Director-at-Large
Rick Edwards, an associate of The Royal Photographic Society, perfected his photography while living in Nairobi Kenya watching wildlife in the many parks of the region. During his last two years of his stay in Kenya he became the official photographer for the Kenya Wildlife Service.
Rick's work can be seen in numerous brochures, magazines and books on wildlife in his beloved Kenya.
Besides photography, Rick also writes articles on wildlife to accompany his images.
Nancy Hinz — Historian/Name Tags
Nancy was born and raised in California. Memories of graduating from Big Bear High School (now the Middle School) in 1955 are very dear to her heart. She married and lived in Brazil for 22 years where she raised her four children. When she returned to the States in 1981 she met Harry and they went on their sailing adventure to New Zealand in 1982.
Upon their return she went back to school at CSULB and studied to become a bi-lingual 5th grade elementary school teacher. It was so nice to have the Apple II C instead of a typewriter for term papers, lesson plans, forms, etc.! The extent of her computer knowledge is teaching 5th graders the basics and teachers how to make mailing labels! Harry has helped her a lot as she is eager to learn. She is so glad to be back in Big Bear and part of the Big Bear Computer Club!
Bill Flanagan — Webmaster
Bill has been back in Big Bear for four years, after previously owning a home here for over ten years while running his printing and graphics business in Long Beach. Bill has over 40 years experience in the graphic arts, starting as a technical illustrator right out of high school in 1958. Bill experienced firsthand how computers changed the printing and graphics business, watching, with some sadness, as desktop publishing replaced drafting tables, Leroy pens, and paste-up waxing machines— much like the hand-held calculator superseded the slide rule. And just as fast.
Bill began building websites as a value-added service for his printing and graphics business customers, and has been learning ever since. He takes a minimalist approach to webpage design, believing that less is more, and that form is subservient to function.
Dorothy Sirk — Membership Director
I was born in Long Beach, California. While a teenager, my family moved to the East Coast for a few years, then moved back to California where I married and had five children. After they left home I went back to school and became a Respiratory Therapist, worked at St Joseph's and Children's Hospital in Orange County for 10 years. Moved to Big Bear in 1987 where I worked in our hospital for thirteen years. Remarried, retired, now I spend my time doing volunteer work at the hospital, gardening, quilting and traveling with my husband in our R.V.
I am also a member of the Big Bear Civil Air Patrol, Big Bear Sportsman's Club, Bear Mt. Dog Rescue, Quilt Guild and now the Big Bear Computer Club. I am a new computer user limited to home use only, so being involved as a Membership Chairperson will be a great learning experience for me. I'm looking forward to this new venture.-->
Grace Fross — Sunshine Director
Grace grew up in Chicago, Illinois. After graduation from college, she married Ron Fross and moved to California. She was a teacher, mother and later worked for the Newport Mesa School District as a Library Tech. She really got into computers in the mid 70's. She is very interested in photography, music, and traveling in their motor home. Grace and Ron met the Cleary's over thirty years ago while we were in the Thunderbird club of Orange County. Since, Yomar has been active in the Big Bear Computer Club for several years, she invited the Fross up for a meeting and they have been interested ever since. They live in Banning California, but they try to make it to Big Bear whenever they are not traveling.
As the Sunshine person, she hopes to bring some cheer to those Computer Club members who are under the weather.
Sue Crane — APCUG Representative
